Families in New York City applying for public high schools have a little more time to make their choices. The original deadline of Wednesday has been pushed back to Monday due to a technical issue with the online application system. A small group of students, affected by problems with the MySchools tool, will have until January 10 to submit their applications. "We apologize for the inconvenience, " said a public schools spokeswoman. This isn't the first hiccup in the application process this year. Back in October, middle school applicants also faced delays.
The trouble stemmed from a new feature that gave incorrect chances of getting into two selective Manhattan high schools. This feature, marked by orange bars, was meant to guide families. It seems there was an error in the seat availability for NYC Lab School for Collaborative Studies and Millennium High School. The schools saw changes in their application processes this year, with a renewed priority for Manhattan-based applicants. The city is standing by the new feature, which they say helps families make better decisions. With the extended deadline, families can now reorder, remove, or add choices to their applications. High school offers are set to be released on March 6.
