This October has been a whirlwind of events! Let's start with the local scene. The fight over Chicago schools between Mayor Brandon Johnson, the Chicago Teachers Union, and Chicago Public Schools heated up. This week, all members of the Chicago Board of Education stepped down from their posts. Across the globe in the Middle East, tensions escalated as Israel entered Lebanon and Iran fired missiles into Israel. The U. S. responded by sending a few thousand troops to the region for added security.
In sports news, the Bears are on a roll with a 2-2 record going into Week 5. Unfortunately, baseball season ended on a low note for Chicago’s teams. A former president celebrated his 100th birthday, and two vice presidential candidates had a calm debate. Early voting in the city began at two sites: The Chicago Board of Elections' Super Site and their offices. Voters can cast their ballots at any open site until 7 p. m. on Election Day, no matter where they live in Chicago.
