OnePlus Watch 3: Sleek Design, Long Battery Life, and Health Boost
USATue Feb 18 2025
The OnePlus Watch 3 has just hit the market, bringing a bunch of new features to the table. It's got a sleek, updated design with a titanium bezel and a larger 1. 5-inch screen. The crown/power button now rotates, making it easier to scroll through the user interface. This smartwatch is not small, measuring 46. 6 x 47. 6 x 11. 75mm and weighing 49. 7g without the strap. It comes in two variants: "Obsidian Titanium" with a darker black bezel and "Emerald Titanium" with a lighter silver chassis and bezel. The titanium is only used for the display bezel, though.
The Watch 3 runs on Wear OS, paired with a custom RTOS. This setup allows for more power-efficient operations, similar to its predecessor. The RTOS handles notifications, watch faces, and other low-power tasks, while Wear OS enables more features and apps. New features include video watch faces and a remote control feature for paired OnePlus devices, letting users control and scroll through videos on their phone from the watch.
Under the hood, the Watch 3 is powered by a Snapdragon W5+ chipset and a slightly upgraded BES2800 chip for RTOS. It has 32GB of storage and a 631 mAh battery, which is over 26% larger than the previous generation. OnePlus claims that the "Smart" battery mode can deliver up to 120 hours (5 days) of battery life on a single charge. This will vary depending on your watch face and other use factors.
The health tracking features have seen significant upgrades. The Watch 3 includes a new sensor array with a wrist temperature sensor, an 8-channel optical heart rate sensor, and a 16-channel pulse oximeter sensor. The heart rate sensor can now run continuously for real-time stats, with new support for tracking vascular health and taking ECG measurements. Another new feature is the “60-Second Health Check-In, ” which provides quick insights into your heart rate, blood oxygen levels, mental wellness, wrist temperature, sleep quality, and vascular age. This feature will be available in Q2 2025, without ECG for those in the US.
OnePlus has also improved sleep monitoring, added over 100 different sports modes, and updated the OHealth app with new ways to show metrics including Sleep Trends Analysis and Heart Rate Trends. The Watch 3 is available for pre-order starting today for $329 in the US. Orders will start shipping on February 25.
The OnePlus Watch 3 is a solid upgrade from its predecessor, offering a sleeker design, longer battery life, and enhanced health tracking features. It's a great choice for those looking for a smartwatch with a focus on health and fitness. However, it's important to note that the health features, while impressive, may not be as accurate as those found in dedicated medical devices. Always consult with a healthcare professional for any health-related concerns.
