Late Thursday night, a 17-year-old allegedly opened fire during a Halloween celebration in downtown Orlando, causing mass panic. Joey Herrera, 22, was one of many terrified partygoers. “I've never been so scared, ” he shared. “I didn't want to die like that. ” People rushed to safety, hiding in nearby businesses or running onto side streets. The Mondrian apartments, normally locked, opened its doors to those fleeing. A front desk employee described the scene as “chaos, panic, and terror. ” Security footage shows the suspected gunman, Jaylen Dwayne Edgar, walking through the crowded streets before the shooting. Orlando Police Chief Eric Smith commented on the recent change in Florida's firearm laws, which no longer allow certain safety measures like street closures and K-9 units. He mentioned that the police are working to find new ways to secure the area with so many people around. The motive behind the shooting is still unknown, and the victims’ identities haven't been released yet.
