Washington D.C., USAThu Jan 16 2025
Attorney general nominee Pam Bondi had a tricky time answering a question from Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill. ) about the 2020 election results. Durbin wanted to know if President Donald Trump had lost the election. Bondi acknowledged that President Joe Biden is now in office and that there was a peaceful transition of power. But she refrained from saying Trump lost, and instead, she talked about her experience in Pennsylvania with potential fraud issues.
Bondi also mentioned Trump's plan to pardon individuals convicted for the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. She said she would review each case individually if asked, similar to her approach as a prosecutor. She condemned violence against law enforcement officers and defended Trump's choice for FBI Director, Kash Patel. However, she insisted there would be no "enemy list" at the Department of Justice.
When asked about her previous calls to "investigate the investigators, " Bondi clarified that she meant addressing misconduct by prosecutors. She criticized the numerous investigations against Trump and promised to avoid politicizing the Justice Department.
