Parade Politics, School Hero, and Primary Feud
A massive crowd filled Milwaukee streets Friday. The Brewers won their first World Series in 57 years. Fans cheered for players, a marching band, and the famous racing sausages. A plane flew overhead with a banner praising David Crowley. He is the county executive running for governor. Crowley rode in a black sports car with his wife. Some fans chanted his name. The current governor and a top Republican lawmaker also joined the parade. Crowley helped broker a deal to keep the team in Milwaukee. That deal uses state, county, city, and team money. It locks the Brewers in for about 50 years.
In Oregon, a school worker named Cassidy Schutz faced a gunman on October 15. She threw her phone at him and then tackled him. The attack happened at Silver Rail Elementary in Bend. The shooter killed three children and one teacher. A father from the school shot the gunman dead while Schutz struggled with him. Schutz says she will carry the loss forever. She has no words for her sadness. She wishes there had been more time. The police chief says she likely stopped more bloodshed. She asks for privacy and sends thoughts to victims and families.
