Park City’s Parade of Winners: A Cheerful Return
Park City, USASat Apr 04 2026
In a lively street filled with cheers, athletes who represented the United States in Milan-Cortina 2026 were welcomed back to Park City. The crowd gathered on Main Street, waving flags and ringing cowbells as the athletes made their way down the closed‑off road. The parade was organized by a local sports alliance that started after Utah’s 2002 Winter Games, giving kids the chance to try many sports.
One of the stars was luger Ashley Farquharson, who earned a bronze medal in women’s singles. She has carried her medal with her since she first slid on the Utah Olympic Park track at age eleven. Farquharson, now 27, talked about how the medal feels like a constant reminder of her excitement. She is already preparing for the next Winter Games in 2030 and may even compete in the 2034 Paralympics.
The event was meant to show that Olympic dreams are possible for anyone in the area. Park City Mayor Ryan Dickey noted that 56 local athletes made up 16 % of Team USA and collected 11 medals. He called the city an “Olympic town” and celebrated its athletes as part of a growing community.
Children in the crowd had their own hopes. Fifteen‑year‑old Finley Rohbock, who is on a local alpine ski team, admired her mother’s 2006 silver medal win and wished to follow in her footsteps. Six‑year‑old River Mercer was thrilled to receive a Paralympic pin and shared that she enjoys watching figure skating more than doing it herself. Her father encouraged her to stay active and explore new passions, hoping she will find a love for sport.
The parade captured the spirit of Park City: an active, supportive place where Olympians and aspiring athletes walk side by side. Families from out of state returned to see the local heroes, and many felt the city’s pride in its athletes.
