Patrick Ewing Returns to Knicks as an Ambassador

New York, USASun Oct 06 2024
Back in 2003, when Patrick Ewing's jersey number was retired by the New York Knicks, it marked a special moment for the team and its fans. Nearly two decades later, at age 62, Ewing is making a comeback to the franchise that drafted him first overall in 1985. This time, he won't be on the court, but rather in the front office as an ambassador for both basketball and business operations. Ewing, who played for the Knicks from 1985 to 2000, will work closely with head coach Tom Thibodeau and the team's management. He expressed his excitement about this new role, stating that MSG has always been like home to him. This isn't Ewing’s first post-retirement job. After hanging up his jersey in 2002, he spent 14 years as an NBA assistant coach with several teams including the Houston Rockets, where he worked under ex-Knicks coach Jeff Van Gundy and alongside Tom Thibodeau. From 2017 to 2023, Ewing led his alma mater Georgetown University as their head coach. Despite leading them to a Big East tournament title in 2021, he was let go due to the team’s poor performance over the last two seasons. Now, Ewing steps back into the Knicks family during an exciting period for fans, who have been energized by the team's recent competitive success.
