Patriots Weigh Trades Before Deadline
Foxborough, USAMon Oct 28 2024
The New England Patriots, with a bleak 2-6 record, are mulling over the idea of making some trades. They could turn into sellers to grab draft picks from contending teams interested in their veteran players. The NFL trade deadline is creeping up, set for November 5th.
"The Patriots are definitely ready to talk business, " Albert Breer from Sports Illustrated mentioned during Patriots Pregame Live on NBC Sports Boston. He highlighted that teams are particularly interested in players on their second contracts, who might not fit into future plans.
Positions that teams are eyeing include wide receivers and edge rushers. The Patriots have depth at these spots, with players like Josh Uche on the edge and wideouts Kendrick Bourne and K. J. Osborn. Younger talent like rookie wide receivers Ja'Lynn Polk, Javon Baker, and Tyquan Thornton could benefit from more playing time.
Uche was recently part of trade discussions but didn't play in the Week 8 win against the Jets. Despite his absence, he's been a hot topic in trade talks due to his appealing contract.
Even though trading vets might weaken the team now, strategically adding draft picks could be beneficial for the team's future. It's all about balancing the present with the future.
