Pennsylvania Ditches 'Woke' Teaching Guidelines in Settlement

In a recent settlement, Pennsylvania's education department waved goodbye to its controversial 'woke' teaching guidelines. These guidelines, part of the 'Culturally-Relevant and Sustaining Education Program Framework', had schools teaching students to question power structures and disrupt harmful practices. A lawsuit from a faith-based legal group, representing parents and school districts, argued this violated First Amendment rights.
The department agreed to settle the lawsuit and dropped the guidelines. One lawyer for the legal group called this a win for Pennsylvania parents, students, and teachers, highlighting the illegality of injecting 'woke' activism into curricula.
Days later, the department introduced the 'Common Ground Framework', but it’s no longer mandatory. This new framework focuses on digital literacy, mental health, and trauma, aiming to create a more inclusive learning environment. Teachers are still encouraged to challenge stereotypes and biases, focusing on historically marginalized groups.
