The Big Five Model is a tool used to understand how people behave. It looks at five key traits: openness, extraversion, neuroticism, agreeableness, and conscientiousness. This study used this model to see how these traits relate to how people use digital spaces like social media and video games.
First, researchers reviewed existing studies on mobile phone use, video game addiction, and social media overuse. They wanted to see if these behaviors could be linked to personality traits. Then, they collected data from 492 people to find out how each trait is connected to excessive internet use.
The results showed that people who are more open and extraverted tend to spend more time on social media and online entertainment. On the other hand, those with higher levels of neuroticism, agreeableness, or conscientiousness are less likely to overuse digital platforms.
This study adds to previous research that connects personality traits to brain structure and behavior. It suggests that certain traits can make people more prone to addictive behaviors in digital environments. For example, those who are more open and extraverted might find it harder to resist the allure of social media and online entertainment.
However, it's important to note that this study only shows a correlation, not causation. Just because someone has certain traits doesn't mean they will definitely develop addictive behaviors. Other factors, like upbringing and environment, also play a role.
