Pickleball: A New Sport and Entertainment Mix in India

Did you know that pickleball is no longer just a fun backyard game? Former tennis pro Ashok Amritraj and Terra Invest are bringing it to the big stage in India. They've acquired the Delhi franchise in the World Pickleball League (WPBL). This isn't just any deal; it's a strategic move into India's growing sports entertainment scene. Amritraj, known for his Hollywood producing success, is no stranger to entertainment. His expertise will transform the WPBL into something exciting. The league, run by the All India Pickleball Association (AIPA), already has big names like Bollywood stars Riteish and Genelia Deshmukh, and actor Samantha Ruth Prabhu involved in other franchises. Pickleball is hot right now. In the U. S. , celebrity pickleball matches are streaming, and a pickleball comedy is in the works with a star-studded cast. Even big names like Kevin Durant and Heidi Klum are investing in the sport. Amritraj sees pickleball as a big hit in India. "The WPBL can combine sports with entertaining stories that people around the world can enjoy, " he says. Terra Invest partner Ankiti Bose agrees, noting that India's sports media and entertainment sector is booming. The WPBL will kick off in Mumbai from Jan. 24 to Feb. 2.
