Google's latest update for the Pixel 9 series is all about making your camera experience more dynamic and connected. Imagine this: you're out on an adventure, and you want to capture every angle of your epic journey. With the new "Connected Camera" feature, you can pair your Pixel 9 with a GoPro HERO10 Black or a Pixel 6. This lets you livestream from different perspectives, all while using popular social media platforms like YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, and TikTok. The connection is seamless, happening over Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. The coolest part? You get a floating vertical pill on your screen to switch between cameras and add new devices easily. Now, let's talk about safety. Satellite SOS is expanding its reach to more places, including Hawaii, Alaska, and parts of Canada, the UK, and Europe. This means if you're in an area without cellular service, you can still contact emergency services. And if you're on T-Mobile or Verizon, you can use carrier satellite messaging to text others or call 911. This feature is available on the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. The Pixel Fold series is also getting some love. The Dual Screen mode in video mode now lets the person you're recording see the action on the external display. And for the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, the Dual Screen mode now supports "Add Me, " making it easier to align your shots.
The Pixel 9 series is also getting some handy updates to its first-party apps. Pixel Studio can now generate images of people, following the rollout of Imagen 3 people generation to the free tier. Pixel Screenshots will automatically suggest items for your Collections, and you can approve or delete suggestions in the new "Suggestions" carousel. This app is now available in your Work Profile on the Pixel 9 series in English, Japanese, and German. For those in Japan, the March 2025 Feature Drop brings access to Pixel Screenshots, Studio, and Recorder’s AI summaries. In Pixel Weather, they’re getting AI weather reports and a pollen tracker card. Similarly, German owners are getting Pixel Screenshots, Studio, and AI Weather reports. But that's not all. The Phone by Google app is getting real-time Scam Detection to protect you from suspicious patterns. Your phone will vibrate and make sounds to alert you to a "Likely scam" warning. This feature is launching for the Pixel 9 series in the US and is powered by on-device Gemini Nano with Multimodality. Similarly, Google Messages Scam Detection will show a card directly in the conversation if common scams are detected. You can quickly "Report & block" or mark "Not a scam. " This is launching first in English in the US, UK, and Canada. And finally, the Gboard Voice Toolbar is rolling out to phones after launching on the Pixel Tablet. This update makes it easier to dictate your thoughts and ideas on the go.
