Plastic Waste Solution: Recycling Labs Partner with Veolia
USA, ConcordTue Jan 21 2025
It’s all about closing the loop on plastic waste. Sam White, recently appointed CEO of GreenLabs Recycling, is spearheading an innovative project to reuse lab plastics. In collaboration with Veolia, they collect discarded lab equipment from clients like Sanofi, transforming it into new benchtop waste storage bins. This sustainable approach helps divert tonnes of plastic from landfills. Over 200, 000 pounds of plastic were recycled last year alone, avoiding the fate of ending up in a landfill.
By establishing partnerships in cities such as Raleigh, Baltimore, and Chicago, White aims to expand GreenLabs' reach nationally. They're also moving to a larger facility in Littleton to accommodate growing local demand for plastic recycling. The Veolia-GreenLabs partnership exemplifies the successful innovation fostered by Greentown Labs, the clean-tech startup incubator cofounded by White. At Greentown Labs, corporate sponsors can easily connect and work with startups like GreenLabs.
The future of artificial intelligence (AI) is also in the limelight. State Senator Barry Finegold is set to file a comprehensive bill to add safety measures around AI use. This bill aims to ensure developers can shut down harmful AI models and follow strict safety protocols, with regular checks and whistleblower protections. Finegold believes it's crucial to get ahead of AI regulation to prevent misuse and harm.
On the tech front, Pison Technology is partnering with Timex to integrate neurocognitive technology into their products. Pison’s brainwave measuring technology, initially developed for neurodegenerative disorders, will be used to monitor athletic performance and worker fatigue. CEO John Croteau, a former semiconductor executive, pivoted Pison from hardware to software to achieve wider distribution.
Lastly, MORE Advertising saw a change in ownership. Co-founders Donna Latson Gittens and Judi Haber sold the agency to insiders Megan Palamé and Beth LePage. Both Gittens and Haber will stay involved in the agency’s future plans.
