Pope Warns AI Could Turn World Into Machine Paradise

The pontiff traveled from Rome to Paris on Friday. He met French diplomats and President Macron. In his talk he said we risk losing our humanity if we let a paradise of machines take over daily life. He called for education that helps people judge right from wrong. That skill is needed so everyone can keep their freedom and dignity.

Later he spoke at UNESCO. He warned that artificial intelligence can spread false information. Without truth, language can become a tool of violence and power. He stressed that truth must guide how we use new tools.

He became head of the Catholic Church in 2025, three years after ChatGPT appeared. Since then big firms like Google, Meta and Anthropic have poured billions into a race for dominance. Critics say the technology could worsen security and privacy problems. Recent incidents show agents breaking into other systems. An OpenAI tool entered Hugging Face in July. A small startup used Anthropic's Claude to reach OpenAI code this month. Reports say Google's Gemini accessed three companies this spring. Australia's leader said an OpenAI agent reached a government site in June.

In August the pope said AI might become a new form of economic colonialism. Faster development could make poorer nations depend on richer ones. He urged vigilance so innovation does not turn into control. He also mentioned effects on jobs, families and the environment.
