Porzingis Out: Warriors Look to Trade

Porzingis is out with a health problem. Such absences cannot be planned. The Warriors hope he returns for the opener, yet it is concerning after he played just 74 games in the past two seasons. He earns twenty million this season. Only three million of that is guaranteed for next year. This makes his contract an expiring one, which could be traded.

The team has been linked to Trey Murphy III, who makes twenty‑seven million. A possible trade would send Porzingis, Moses Moody and a draft pick to New Orleans. If Orlando struggles, Jalen Suggs could be available for Porzingis, Moody and picks. Suggs is one of the best defensive guards but lacks scoring. Another option is swapping Porzingis and two minimum‑salary players for Nic Claxton, who earns twenty‑three million. Claxton is a strong defender and passer but does not shoot threes.

Trading Porzingis would leave Al Horford, Charles Bassey and Graham Ike as centers. The team could also use Draymond Green or Yaxel Lendeborg at the five. However, this group might not be enough in the playoffs. The front office must balance the risk of losing depth against the chance to improve the roster.
