Post-Thanksgiving Travelers Face Winter Weather Challenges
USAFri Nov 28 2025
Travelers heading out after Thanksgiving might want to bundle up and be cautious. A mix of snow, rain, and cold temperatures is expected to make journeys tricky across the northern United States.
The National Weather Service has issued winter storm warnings from Montana all the way to New York. This means that areas like Iowa and Illinois are in for a significant snowfall, with some places getting up to a foot of snow. While it's not quite a blizzard yet, the conditions are still pretty harsh.
Up in the Great Lakes region, the snow is already falling hard. Places near Lake Superior, as well as areas downwind of Lakes Erie and Ontario, could see a foot of snow by the time the storm passes. Even central New York might get that much snow.
In the Northeast, snow squalls could cause sudden whiteout conditions, making driving extremely dangerous. Meanwhile, the Pacific Northwest and the Rockies are dealing with a mix of snow and rain. By Saturday, the snow will ease up in the Rockies and northern Plains but will keep going in the Midwest.
Down south, heavy storms could bring flash flooding to the western Gulf Coast on Saturday. Temperatures are also way below average in the eastern and central parts of the country. The Midwest is seeing highs in the 20s and 30s, while New England and the Mid-Atlantic are in the 30s and 40s. The Southeast is a bit warmer, with highs in the 40s and 50s.
All this bad weather has already caused some vehicle crashes in western Michigan. So, if you're traveling, be prepared for delays and dangerous road conditions.
