Walking through a quarry and stumbling upon something that looks like it's from another world. That's exactly what happened to a worker in Oxfordshire, near London. Strange bumps in the ground turned out to be dinosaur footprints, dating back a whopping 166 million years! Experts from the University of Birmingham got excited when they realized these weren't just any footprints, but a nearly 500-foot path where dinosaurs like the giant Megalosaurus used to roam. This discovery is like a time machine, showing us how these massive creatures moved and interacted. The quarry worker, Gary Johnson, accidentally found this treasure trove of history. A team of 100 people spent a week in June digging up the site and found around 200 footprints. These aren't the first dinosaur tracks found in the area. In 1997, over 40 sets of footprints were discovered, some stretching almost 600 feet. The new prints are buried under mud, but they're in perfect condition, showing every detail of the dinosaurs' steps. Dr. Duncan Murdock, one of the experts, said the footprints are so well-preserved that you can see how the mud was squished by the dinosaurs' feet. Along with other fossils like shells and plants, they can paint a picture of what the dinosaurs' world looked like. It's like a muddy lagoon where these prehistoric giants walked. Dr. Emma Nicholls added that even though Megalosaurus has been studied for a long time, there's still so much we don't know about them.
