Preventing Childhood Obesity: A Pre-Pregnancy Healthy Lifestyle Matters

DenmarkSun Jan 26 2025
Did you know that the number of people who are overweight has tripled worldwide since 1975? It's a big problem, especially because more than 40% of Danish women start their pregnancy overweight. This isn't good news, considering that childhood obesity rates are also on the rise. So, what can we do about it? Researchers are trying to find out if a healthy lifestyle before and during pregnancy can make a difference. They're running a study called the PRE-STORK trial to see if helping women with overweight or obesity change their habits before they get pregnant and keep it up during pregnancy can help prevent their children from being overweight at birth. Past efforts to change lifestyles during pregnancy alone haven't shown much success, so this study aims to find a better way. It's like giving the kids a healthier start even before they're born!
