Patrick Klarecki, a long-time professor at Ferris State University, has earned himself a big honor. He recently received the John Berthelsen Annual Service Recognition Award from the Print and Graphics Scholarship Foundation. This award is like a pat on the back for all the hard work Klarecki has done for the university's graphic media management program and the print/graphics industry. Debbie Bohan, the foundation's director, handed him the award. She said Ferris State has a great program for anyone wanting to get into the printing business.
Klarecki has been teaching for over 30 years. He's seen a lot of changes in the industry, especially with technology. When he started, there were only 14 instructors, and the program was part of the College of Technology because printing was more about craftsmanship. Now, students learn about modern technology and how to handle customers and marketing. Klarecki thinks it's important that people know printing and graphics are a huge industry, making almost everything from furniture to calendars. While at the university, Bohan met with some students and leaders. She even chatted with a freshman named Brady Nachtrieb. Brady got a scholarship from the foundation and was excited to meet Bohan. He said the scholarship helped him take more classes and be at Ferris. There were 12 other students who also got scholarships. They all had different backgrounds and came from different places.
