Pronouns Out of Order? Understand the Government's New Policy

Sat Feb 01 2025
Federal employees are told to erase their pronouns from emails and paper forms. Why? Because the government wants all things gender related to be deleted from all official documents. This change happened quickly. There was an order from the President. Federal workers were told to follow it by 5 PM on Friday. Some government agencies are taking it a step further. They are not just wiping out pronouns. They are removing the entire concept of gender. Some even want to remove any mention of sex in forms, and they are limiting the options to just male and female. They do this to keep things simple. Unfortunately, it may make things confusing instead. This is because sex and gender are not the same thing. Sex is biological. Gender is how people identify themselves. And also, this puts people's identity at risk. Some offices are planning to close all-gender bathrooms because of the new policy. Government employees are now having to remove any gender identifying pronouns from their email signatures. Such as he, she, they, etc. The government is implementing this policy. The government is asking employees to remove the pronouns, in order to follow President Trump's executive order. The government has asked departments and agencies to remove pronouns from all official materials. This policy is affecting many areas. It is not just emails and forms. For example, the Environmental Protection Agency has closed all-gender bathrooms. They have done this to avoid confusion and make things simpler. The government wants everyone to use and understand. This is a challenge. Some people might not be aware of the difference between sex and gender. Many agencies have sent out instructions to their employees. Employees of the State Department were told to remove pronouns from email signatures. The Labor Department and the Department of Veterans Affairs have been doing the same thing. Employees at some VA medical centers were given more instructions. They were told to remove any mention of gender from official paperwork. They were told to use Sex instead of Gender. They could only use the options "male" or "female. " This creates a problem. This is because all the information about someone is not considered. This is because some people identify as something other than male or female. Federal workers are now confused. They are now asking questions. They are asking where the line is. They are asking what is considered gender related. They are asking what is considered to be gender ideology. They are also asking what happens when they do not conform to the new rules. They are asking what happens when they do not follow the new guidelines.
