Punk Rock, Politics, and a New Album: Dropkick Murphys Speak Out
USA, BostonWed Jul 02 2025
Dropkick Murphys are back with a new album, "For The People, " dropping on July 4th. This isn't just any album; it's a political statement. The band, known for their punk rock sound, has been vocal about their views, especially since the 2020 election. They've played at protests and called out fans wearing MAGA gear at their concerts.
Ken Casey, the frontman, grew up in Milton and was inspired by punk legends like Joe Strummer. He's not backing down from speaking out, even if some fans want them to "shut up and sing. " The album tackles issues like inequality and division in the U. S. Some songs were written before the election, but others were inspired by recent events.
The first single, "Who'll Stand With Us? , " has a powerful music video. It shows missing persons posters and people being kidnapped from their workplaces. Casey says the video was meant to symbolize issues like veterans and the elderly losing benefits. But now, with ICE raids happening, it takes on a new meaning.
The album also has lighter songs and features special guests. Al Barr, who took a break from the band, returns to sing on "The Vultures Circle High. " There's also a tribute to late Pogues frontman Shane MacGowan on "One Last Goodbye. "
Dropkick Murphys will headline the new Irish culture and music festival, Seisiún, and tour with Bad Religion this summer. Before that, they're playing a free album release show in Quincy, where the band first started. It's a full circle moment for them.
