Putin’s Hypersonic Threat: Kyiv’s Energy Crisis Escalates

President Vladimir Putin recently made a chilling threat. He warned that Russia might use its powerful new hypersonic ballistic missile, named Oreshnik, against targets in Kyiv. These targets could be military sites, industrial buildings, or decision-making centers. Putin believes this is a response to Ukraine using western long-range missiles against Russian targets. He described the missile's destruction capacity, saying it can turn targets into dust due to its extreme heat. This threat followed a series of missile attacks on Ukraine's energy infrastructure, causing widespread power outages in freezing weather. Russia’s use of cluster munitions makes repairs more challenging, deliberately complicating relief efforts. Despite these attacks, Ukraine’s air defence has been successful in shooting down many incoming missiles.
