Quitting Smoking in America: How Adults Are Doing It

USAMon Jan 06 2025
In 2022, about 2. 9 million American adults successfully quit smoking for at least six months. These individuals were mostly men, non-Hispanic whites, under 55 years old, college-educated, and did not suffer from depression. They also tended to drink alcohol. Nicotine products were the go-to method for quitting, with e-cigarettes being particularly popular, either alone or combined with other methods. Prescription drugs and non-nicotine, non-prescription methods were less favored. Interestingly, a whopping 13. 1 million adults tried but couldn't stop smoking. Those who succeeded were generally younger, more educated, and more likely to use e-cigarettes. It's clear that many adults still try to quit smoking on their own. To make a real dent in smoking rates, we should target groups that struggle the most and promote proven methods for quitting.
