Rain‑Stuck Rink Opens Soon in Clinton Square
Syracuse NY, USAWed Jun 24 2026
A bright new roller rink was meant to light up Clinton Square, but heavy rain put a pause on its grand debut.
The city’s parks crew had set up the colorful floor, and Mayor Sharon Owens and Syeisha Byrd cut a ribbon on Tuesday.
However, the wet surface forced officials to wait until the water dried before letting people skate.
The first chance for rentals is scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, from five to eight in the evening, weather permitting.
After that, the week’s plan is: Wednesday from eleven to two and again from five to eight; Thursday with a special Pride Night at six to nine; Friday late afternoon to ten; and Saturday evening for Mayor’s Night.
The mayor hopes to add more open‑skating slots next week, but those times are still undecided.
Admission costs five dollars and can be bought at the Atrium.
Rentals are also $5, but skaters may bring their own wheels and use the rink outside official hours.
Payments are accepted by cash or card, though a small fee applies to credit‑card transactions.
Mayor Owens said she wants the rink to stay as a summer highlight for Clinton Square events, hoping festival planners will keep it open.
She encouraged anyone with personal skates to visit whenever the schedule allows.
