Rainy Day Ahead: Stay Dry and Stay Safe!
Columbia, SC, USAWed Jul 02 2025
A weak cold front is on its way, bringing more rain and thunderstorms to the area. This isn't expected to be a severe weather event, but heavy rain could lead to flooding in certain spots, especially in the afternoon and evening.
Because of all the clouds and rain, temperatures will be a bit cooler than usual. Expect highs to be in the mid-80s to around 90 degrees. By tonight, the front will have moved through, bringing drier air from the north and west. Rain chances will decrease by midnight, and overnight lows will drop to the lower 70s. There might even be some fog overnight due to light winds and leftover moisture.
Looking ahead, the front is expected to stall near the South Carolina coast. While most areas will start to dry out, there might still be a few isolated showers or storms in the far southeastern part of the region on Thursday afternoon. By Friday, conditions will be drier and warmer, perfect for Independence Day celebrations.
As for the weekend, there's a chance a low-pressure system could form along the stalled front offshore. The National Hurricane Center gives this system a 40% chance of developing into something tropical or subtropical over the next week. Even if it does form, direct impacts are expected to be minimal, but it could bring more moisture and rain chances later in the weekend and into early next week. Forecasters are still uncertain about rainfall amounts and temperatures from Sunday through Tuesday.
So, be prepared for a wet day today, but things should start to improve by the weekend. Stay dry and stay safe!
