In the early morning, a man named Nedal Kifeyah, who works as a waiter, got into a scary situation. He was waiting for the train at the Bay Ridge Avenue subway station when someone attacked him with a knife. Unfortunately, he was stabbed in his eye, which could lead to blindness. The attacker was wearing a unique jacket with an Amazon logo, but they ran away after the attack. Nedal was rushed to the hospital and is scheduled for surgery. His brother, Jay Kifeyah, hopes the attacker gets caught and justice is served. He also mentioned that his brother has a troubled past but is not a troublemaker.
Hours before this incident, another violent event took place at the 110th Street-Central Park North station. A woman, whose age is unknown, was slashed in the face with a razor blade by a stranger named Maritza Abreu. The victim thought Abreu was following her before the attack. Abreu was arrested and charged with felony assault. She has a prior arrest for fighting with another rider on a Manhattan train.
Both victims are stable now, but the motives behind these attacks are still unclear. The lack of cooperation from the victims makes it harder for the police to find out why these incidents happened. Subway violence has decreased slightly this year, but these two incidents show that it's still a concern.
