Rebuilding Gaza: A Long Road Ahead

Gaza, PalestineWed Oct 23 2024
Trying to rebuild a place that's been destroyed by a war that's been going on for over a year. That's the challenge facing Gaza right now. The United Nations says it could take a whopping 350 years to get Gaza's economy back to where it was before this latest conflict started. The war has caused massive destruction, with whole neighborhoods reduced to rubble and critical infrastructure damaged beyond repair. The economy was already struggling due to a blockade and previous wars. Even if the war ended tomorrow, it wouldn't be an easy fix. The United Nations says that to truly recover, Gaza needs a lot more than just a ceasefire. It needs freedom of movement, investment, and an end to the blockade. Without these things, the future looks bleak. Israel, on the other hand, sees the blockade as a necessary measure to prevent Hamas from importing weapons. This disagreement makes the path to recovery even more complicated.
