In today's multicultural Germany, many young adults prefer partners from their own religious background—a trend known as religious homophily. A recent study, using data from a survey among young Christians and Muslims, found interesting patterns. Both men and women generally want partners of the same faith. However, Muslims often show more preference for religious homophily than Christians. Religiosity plays a big role too. Christians tend to disapprove of very religious partners, while Muslims are more accepting. When it comes to casual relationships versus marriage, Christian men and Muslim men are a bit more flexible, whereas Muslim women seem to stick to their religious homophily preferences. The findings make it clear that religion matters a lot in choosing life partners for young adults in Germany.
