Election night is still in full swing, but Republicans are already celebrating. They're just a few seats away from controlling the US House, which is crucial for Donald Trump's plans when he returns to the White House. As of now, they've snagged 212 seats out of 435, with one more win in Colorado.
Meanwhile, Democratic Representative Marie Gluesenkamp Perez managed to hold onto her seat in Washington, despite a tough challenge from Republican Joe Kent. She first won this seat by a slim margin of 2, 600 votes two years ago. This district is known for its rural areas and suburbs that stretch into Oregon.
Republicans need six more wins to keep their grip on the House. They've already taken over the Senate, but there's still a race to watch in Nevada, where Democratic Senator Jacky Rosen is fighting to keep her seat. If Republicans win the House too, they could push through big changes like tax cuts, energy reforms, and border controls.
Some races are still too close to call, especially in the western states where counting votes takes longer. Ten seats are currently held by Republicans and nine by Democrats, with 14 seats being hotly contested before the election.
In the Senate, Republican senators will soon vote on who'll lead their party. Rick Scott is gaining support, even though John Thune and John Cornyn are the more experienced choices.
