Richardson ISD is asking for a huge sum of money, $1. 4 billion, to fix up schools and buy new stuff. This includes building materials, books, tech gadgets, and even stadium upgrades. If voters say yes, taxes will go up by a small amount. For a home worth $500, 000, that's about $124 more per year. Now, asking for more money when people are already struggling with high taxes is a big deal. But, the district says it needs these upgrades to keep improving. Right now, the district has a C rating, but it's working to get a B. They also want to bring back students who left and keep the ones they have. The schools are old, over 58 years on average. Many restrooms haven't been updated since they were built. The superintendent, Tabitha Branum, says they need to fix these issues to stay competitive. Proposition A is the biggest part of the plan, at $1. 34 billion. It includes turning six junior high schools into middle schools. This would help with space issues and give sixth graders better classes. The plan also includes building a new career and technical education center. Other things include fixing restrooms, roofs, HVAC systems, safety and security upgrades, school buses, maintenance vehicles, and buying new books. Proposition B is about buying devices for students and teachers. This $54 million plan would also get library devices, computer lab devices, and student WiFi hotspots. In today's digital world, having the right tech is a must. Proposition C is for the stadiums. $7. 4 million would go to upgrading the two largest stadiums. This includes better seating, lighting, and new turf. While stadiums can sometimes be seen as unnecessary, this plan seems reasonable. In the end, the district believes these upgrades are necessary for improvement. But it's up to the voters to decide if they agree.
