Riverhounds Eye a Fresh Start in Early Cup Clash
Pittsburgh, USAWed Mar 25 2026
The Pittsburgh Riverhounds are gearing up for a crucial U. S. Open Cup game against Steel City FC, hoping to kick off their season with some momentum.
The match was moved from last week due to bad weather, giving the team a chance to test how deep their squad is and whether they can keep players fit.
If they win, the Riverhounds will face Sporting Jacksonville at home on Saturday and then host another Cup match against Virginia Dream next Wednesday, before heading to Indy for a road game on April 4.
Defender Beto Ydrach says the loss to Tampa Bay was a learning moment and that this game is a chance to rebuild confidence.
He notes the club’s slow start mirrors last year’s early struggles, and he urges the team to accelerate their play as more home games approach.
The defense has been porous, allowing 33 shots in the first three matches and conceding seven goals to just four scored.
This is a sharper decline than in 2025, when it took twice as many games to see the same results.
Head coach Rob Vincent acknowledges that recent performances have disappointed fans and that the team needs to play more aggressively in midfield.
He points out that a calm approach has led to missed opportunities and that improvement is still required.
Goalkeeper Nico Campuzano, who led the league in saves last season, stresses that taking the game lightly would be a mistake.
He plans to analyze each result and use it to sharpen his performance for the future.
The match starts just after 7 p. m. , with tickets sold online and at the stadium box office.
Fans can also stream the game on the U. S. Open Cup’s YouTube channel.
