Robert MacIntyre Seeks First PGA Tour Win at Texas Open as Storms Delay Play

TPC San Antonio, Texas, USASun Apr 05 2026
Robert MacIntyre kept his Sunday morning tee time in sight after leading the shortened third round of the Valero Texas Open. Lightning cut short play mid-morning at TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course, leaving the Scottish player at 15 under for the tournament—two strokes clear of Sweden’s Ludvig Aberg. Six holes had been completed before weather forced everyone off the course, meaning no one finished their round that day. Before storms rolled in, two English players made notable progress. Matt Wallace was on a tear, seven under through 14 holes, and finished at 11 under overall. Marco Penge also finished 14 holes at six under to climb into a tie for fifth at 10 under. Japan’s Ryo Hisatune, who only managed eight holes, somehow ended up tied with Wallace at 10 under after going three under on his half-finished set. Meanwhile, four Americans—Chris Kirk, Chandler Phillips, Michael Kim, and Tony Finau—all stopped after playing just nine holes, ending at 10 under.
MacIntyre’s early lead turned into a four-stroke advantage by the end of Friday. At 14 under after two rounds, his score was the best two-day start since the tournament moved to this course. If he pulls off a win, he would become the third straight left-handed champion, following recent winners Akshay Bhatia and Brian Harman. Aberg, meanwhile, has quietly been consistent, with top-five finishes in his last two appearances. Defending champ Brian Harman didn’t stand out, finishing Saturday’s half-round at six under. The weather played tricks on everyone—Friday’s second round was also interrupted, pushing Luke Clanton into Saturday morning play just to make the cut. Tournament officials tried moving the third round earlier to dodge storms, but Mother Nature had other plans.
