Rodgers Denies Role in Saleh's Firing
New York, USAWed Oct 09 2024
Aaron Rodgers has strongly denied reports that he had a hand in Robert Saleh's firing from the New York Jets. On Wednesday, Rodgers took to the "Pat McAfee Show" to express his support for his former head coach. "I resent any of those accusations because they are patently false," Rodgers said. He clarified that he doesn't hold the power people think he does and emphasized his admiration for Saleh.
The Jets announced Saleh's dismissal on Tuesday following two consecutive losses, leaving the team with a 2-3 record. Saleh had a 20-36 overall record during his tenure with the Jets. The team has promoted defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to serve as the interim head coach, starting with a "Monday Night Football" game against the Bills.
Owner Woody Johnson also addressed the situation, stating that the decision to fire Saleh was his alone and that Rodgers had no involvement. Johnson expressed confidence in the team's talent and the new direction under Ulbrich. He believes this change will bring new energy and increase the team's chances of making the playoffs.
Rodgers revealed that Johnson called him on Monday night after the Jets' loss to the Vikings. The call was to check on Rodgers' well-being, as he had injured his ankle during the game. They discussed the game and Rodgers' disappointment with his performance but did not mention Saleh's future.
Rodgers has consistently praised Saleh, even calling him a "family man. " He admitted that the firing was a harsh reminder of the tough business of sports. Saleh himself released a statement thanking the Jets organization and expressing his love for the players and coaching staff.
