A 12-year-old boy in Ukraine's Kharkiv city lost his life when a powerful Russian glide bomb hit a residential building. This wasn't just a heartbreaking tragedy, but a stark reminder of the brutal reality faced daily by civilians. The boy was pulled from the rubble with severe injuries and doctors fought to save him, but sadly, their efforts were in vain.
Russia has been using these heavy glide bombs to target Ukrainian positions and cities, even those far from the front lines. Kharkiv, a city with over a million people, is about 30 kilometers from the border. It's a scary thought that any city, no matter how far from the fighting, could be hit at any time.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has been asking the U. S. to allow Ukraine to use long-range American missiles to target Russian air bases. He believes that this would help stop the relentless bombing. His request comes with a powerful message: every delayed decision by Ukraine's partners means more lives lost.
Early Thursday, Russia also launched 10 missiles at a bridge in the Odesa region, and sent 43 exploding drones over multiple regions. Some of these drones were shot down or jammed, but others caused damage. In Kyiv, debris from shot-down drones fell in the Podil district, causing minor damage. It's a grim fact that Kyiv residents have barely a day without hearing air alerts.
Russian forces are making slow but steady progress in the east, trying to take advantage of Ukraine's shortages. They reported capturing a village in the Donetsk region. Ukraine, however, isn't sitting idly. They launched drone attacks, including one on a port in the occupied city of Berdyansk.
