The Cadence at Southern University apartments have seen a surge in crime this year. Police reports show 58 incidents, including assaults and burglaries, since January. Two tragic shootings have shaken the community. In October, 17-year-old Micah Booker lost his life there. Just recently, 21-year-old Donovan Pugh, a criminal justice student at Southern University, was killed in a possible home invasion. Parents are worried. One mother shared her fears, saying her daughter hasn't slept in the apartment since a recent incident. She questioned the safety of the complex, especially since her daughter wanted to live in a campus dorm but couldn't due to limited housing. \"My child's safety is my top priority, \" she stated, emphasizing that she would break the lease if needed. The apartment complex did not respond to requests for comment. This leaves many wondering about the steps being taken to address the safety concerns.
