South KoreaThu Jan 23 2025
At the recent Galaxy Unpacked event, Samsung unveiled its latest smartphone lineup, the Galaxy S25 series. This includes the S25, S25+, and the top-tier S25 Ultra. The phones come with a few new features and a slight redesign, but the real star is Samsung’s new integrated AI platform. The AI can perform multiple tasks based on text prompts. Besides phones, Samsung also teased a new “Edge” variant and AR glasses set for later this year.
The S25 and S25+, priced at $800 and $1, 000 respectively, bear a resemblance to iPhones but retain Samsung's signature three vertical camera bumps. They are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and 12 GB of RAM. These phones will feature AI capabilities like “cross-app actions, ” Now Briefs, and Audio Eraser.
The S25 Ultra stands out with a 50 MP ultra-wide lens and QHD+ resolution using ProScaler technology. It includes the S Pen but lacks air actions from previous models.
The S25 Edge, a slimmer model with stacked internals, was also announced but with limited details.
Samsung is also set to release smart glasses that will use its conversational AI assistant. These glasses will support Android XR, similar to their previously announced Project Moohan AR headset.
The headline feature of the S25 lineup is the cross-app actions via the built-in Gemini AI. Users can access this AI by holding the side power button. It lets you perform tasks across Samsung and Google apps, with initial support for WhatsApp and Spotify.
The new Now Bar on the lock screen displays weather and relevant details, personalized based on your habits. The Audio Eraser feature in videos can separate and tweak different sound sources, like wind or background noise.
Gemini Live can now analyze photos and videos, and Google's Circle to Search feature will offer enhanced AI overviews and better recognition of numbers, emails, and sounds.
The S25 phones also support LOG video recording in 10-bit HEVC for professional videographers. Samsung Health will add more mental health tracking features, aiming to be a personal health assistant.
