Wrestling fans in the San Luis Valley have plenty to celebrate. The latest rankings are out, and several local teams and wrestlers are making their mark.
In Class 3A, Alamosa is still the top dog. The Mean Moose have a strong lineup with 10 wrestlers making the cut. Leading the pack are Jeremiah DeLaCerda at 106 pounds and Uriah Martinez at 138 pounds, both sitting pretty at the top. But they're not alone. Anthony Griego and Pablito Rodriguez are also holding down second place spots at 150 and 132 pounds respectively. The rest of the team is no slouch either, with wrestlers like Jovanny Mendoza, Anthony Meder, and Daniel Martinez making their presence known.
Centauri isn't far behind, with six wrestlers in the rankings. Spencer Smith is making waves at 190 pounds, sitting in second place. The Falcons also have some heavy hitters like Caden Casias and Aaden Quintana.
Over in Class 2A, it's a bit quieter for the San Luis Valley teams. Center's Michael Archuleta is holding his own at 120 pounds, while Del Norte's Paul Neal is making his mark at 157 pounds. Monte Vista's Mathieu Dean and Elijah Baumgardner are also showing some serious skill at 106 and 138 pounds respectively.
But it's not just the boys making noise. The girls are stepping up too. Alamosa's girls team is ranked ninth in Class 4A. Samantha Maestas and Gizelle Meraz are leading the charge, both sitting pretty at the top of their weight classes. The Mean Moose girls also have Leah Pintor and Kennedy Hillis making their mark.
Other teams like Antonito, Centauri, and Monte Vista also have girls making waves in the rankings. It's clear that wrestling in the San Luis Valley is thriving, with both boys and girls bringing their A-game to the mat.
