Saturday's High School Sports Wrap-Up: Girls and Boys Hockey and Basketball Action

On December 28th, high school sports were in full swing with some exciting matches. Let's dive into the highlights!
In girls' hockey, Brayley Vandenberg shone brightly for Sartell-Sauk Rapids by scoring two goals against Hutchinson. The game ended 4-1. Forest Lake and Brainerd-Little Falls tied 2-2 in overtime. Litchfield-Dassel-Cokato had a big win, 5-0, over Northern Lakes with Stella Hillmann scoring three times. St. Cloud Crush and New Ulm also tied 2-2 in overtime, with Reese Ruska and Molly Burkstrand netting goals for the Crush.
Over in boys' hockey, Albert Lea dominated Becker-Big Lake with a final score of 8-4. River Lakes beat Marshall 10-3, with Parker Welz and Blake Schultz each scoring twice for the Stars. Sartell lost to Holy Angels 6-2, with Preston Derugisch and Jameson Schmitz scoring for the Sabres. Little Falls crushed Princeton 5-1, with Ryan Oothoudt scoring twice for the Flyers. St. Cloud Crush lost to St. Cloud Cathedral 5-1. Luverne won a high-scoring game against Sauk Rapids-Rice, 9-6, with six different players scoring for the Storm.
In girls' basketball, Albany's Claire Lecy and Molly Goebel each scored 10 points, but it wasn't enough to beat Southwest Christian in a 55-52 game. Becker lost to Edina 73-56, with Andersyn Changamire scoring 20 points. Sauk Centre dominated Perham 74-46. Melrose lost to St. Cloud Cathedral 62-37. Annandale beat Little Falls 64-47, led by Julia Bishop with 17 points. Irondale defeated St. Cloud Crush 51-36. Holdingford had a big win over Sauk Rapids-Rice, 80-14. Champlin Park beat Sartell 68-51.
In boys' basketball, Southwest Christian lost to Becker 83-79 in a high-scoring game. Nathan Weiss and Bryce Pauman led the Bulldogs with 20 and 17 points, respectively. Litchfield beat Concordia Academy 69-67. Annandale lost to Buffalo 58-51, with Colton Purcell scoring 20 points for the Cardinals. Sauk Rapids-Rice lost to Fargo Davies 87-71, with Keller Hanson and Spencer Swenson scoring 21 and 20 points, respectively. Elk River edged out Sartell 48-46, with Maddox Lewis scoring 12 points for the Sabres. Melrose lost to St. Cloud Cathedral 68-52. North Branch beat Rocori 67-54, with Grant Tylutki and TJ Starkay scoring 25 and 15 points, respectively. Fridley lost to St. Cloud Apollo 79-70. Hutchinson beat St. Cloud Tech 50-47. Albany won against Dawson-Boyd 74-53, with Zeke Austin leading the Huskies with 30 points.
