The United Nations is hosting a massive conference in Colombia about protecting nature. The leader of the UN, Antonio Guterres, is calling for big money to be spent on a special fund that helps countries protect and fix biodiversity – the variety of life on Earth. This is happening because losing all that life can cause big trouble, like making people poorer and hurting the economy. A whole bunch of people from all over the world are there, even some presidents and ministers. They need to figure out how to make sure everyone meets the goals set to protect nature by 2030. It's not easy, though, because a group called the EMC is causing trouble and warning that the meeting won't go well. The mayor of Cali says everything is under control, but the president is nervous. The famous primate expert, Jane Goodall, says we're running out of time to fix the problem. Colombia, which has a lot of different kinds of life, is in charge of this conference and thinks nature is more than just a resource we use. The country has had many problems with wars and fights over the years, which makes this task even harder.
