Schools Explore The AI Advantage
Baskin Ridge New Jersey, Basking USATue Feb 04 2025
In New Jersey, Bernards Township and Watchung Hills school districts want to join forces to dive deep into Artificial Intelligence (AI) and how it meshes with education. Kristen Fox is the Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum & Instruction and she's been chatting with Watchung Hills about the topic. During their discussions, they came across a helpful group called AI for Education. This group offers guidelines, support, and professional development for school leaders. The idea is to get everyone on board by using the group's resources.
Think about it. It's a big deal to have experts on hand for all the key players – Board members, teachers, staff, and parents. This could make navigating AI in schools a lot smoother. It's all about getting more eyes in the game to figure out the best way to use AI for students.
The board's president, Jennifer White, brought up the idea of splitting the cost with Watchung Hills. This way, everyone shares the benefits and the expenses. It's a win-win situation. The conversation about this partnership happened during a recent school board meeting on the 27th of Jan. 2023. They acknowledged AI's potential in education and looked at partnering with Watchung Hills Regional High School.
Of course, there are plenty of questions to consider. For example, what kind of training will be involved? How will it impact different types of students? And how can schools ensure that AI is used effectively and safely? These are all crucial points to think about as schools explore the future of AI in education.
The approach is smart. Instead of each district trying to figure everything out alone, they are teaming up. Joining forces makes it a lot easier.
