Schools Shut in Nigeria After Church Attack
Kwara state, NigeriaThu Nov 20 2025
In Nigeria, schools in five areas of Kwara state have been closed. This decision came after a church was attacked, and people were kidnapped. The government is worried that schools could be the next target.
The attack happened on Tuesday night. Gunmen killed two people and took the pastor and some worshippers hostage. This is not the only recent incident. Earlier, 25 schoolgirls were kidnapped in Kebbi state. These events show how unsafe the country has become.
The government says they are trying to stop kidnappers. They want to protect children from being used as shields. Schools will stay closed until it is safe again.
President Bola Tinubu has had to cancel some trips because of these issues. He sent a team to talk to U. S. officials about the situation.
The U. S. has been watching Nigeria closely. They are concerned about how Christians are treated there. Nigeria says this is not fair. They say the problem is more about general insecurity, not just religion.
