Science and Democracy Rally in Kane County

St. Charles, IL, USASat Mar 07 2026
Local groups plan a protest on Saturday to defend science and democratic values. The event will start at 10 a. m. outside the Kane County Circuit Clerk’s Office and run until 11:30 a. m. The organizers include Indivisible Fox Valley Rising, Fox Valley Activists, Batavia Democrats, Geneva Democrats, St. Charles Democrats, Elgin Democrats, Western Township Democrats, HIKE Indivisible Elgin, and We Can Lead Change. Their goal is to highlight how the current administration sidelines science in favor of untested ideas and bigotry, especially concerning vaccines, climate change, and public health. The rally aligns with a national “Day of Action” by Stand Up For Science. Participants point out that fifteen state attorneys general, led by Democrats, have sued the former administration over vaccine schedule changes. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul also joined a lawsuit against a $600 million cut in CDC grants. These legal actions aim to protect public health and prevent the resurgence of diseases like polio, which is no longer considered eradicated in the U. S.
A spokesperson from Geneva explained that the rally was originally meant to focus solely on science, but democracy was added because people felt their voices were being ignored. The event is expected to draw a larger crowd than previous marches, reflecting growing frustration with misinformation. Kane County Board Member Bill Tarver criticized the administration’s suppression of scientific research, arguing that it threatens health, agriculture, and environmental protections. He urged residents to demand evidence‑based policies to safeguard the community’s future. A second pro‑science gathering will take place in Chicago from 1 p. m. to 2:30 p. m. , making the St. Charles and Chicago events the only two in Illinois that Saturday. Other states, including Kansas, Ohio, Arizona, Maryland, Wisconsin, Florida, and Georgia, have scheduled similar rallies across the country.
