Students from all over Berks County are gathering at Albright College on March 2 to set up their projects for the 74th Reading‑Berks Science and Engineering Fair. The event, which began in 1952, is the second‑oldest science fair in America and welcomes participants from grades six through twelve. On the first day, teams arrange their displays in Bollman Gymnasium and prepare for judging. The next morning, March 3, judges conduct interviews to probe deeper into each project’s science and design. Two public viewing days follow: March 4 runs from 11 a. m. to 9 p. m. , and March 5 opens at 8 a. m. until 4 p. m. Visitors can walk through the exhibits, ask questions, and see how students tackle real‑world problems.
The awards ceremony takes place on March 5 at 6 p. m. , where trophies and certificates recognize the best work. Nearly three hundred students will compete, showcasing projects that range from robotics to environmental studies. In addition to the fair, families can submit obituaries to the local newspaper by email or phone. The paper accepts submissions from funeral homes, cremation services, and families themselves. Applicants must provide the obituary text in a Word or Google document, include photographs if desired, and verify the death with a funeral home phone number or a copy of the death certificate. Payments for obituaries are handled by credit card, and proof of payment is required before the obituary can run. Submissions must reach the desk by 3:00 p. m. the day before publication.
