Scooters on Standby: What You Need to Know
USAMon Mar 24 2025
Scooters are a popular way to get around, but some models have a serious flaw. The U. S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has flagged a problem with Segway's Ninebot Max G30P and Max G30LP KickScooters. The issue? The folding mechanism can fail while in use. This can cause the handlebars or stem to collapse, leading to falls and injuries. The injuries reported so far range from minor bruises to more severe broken bones. The Commission has received 68 reports of this issue, with 20 injuries documented. These scooters were sold across the U. S. at major retailers like Best Buy, Costco, Walmart, Target, and Sam's Club. They were also available online at Segway. com and Amazon. com. Prices for these scooters ranged from $600 to $1, 000. The affected scooters were manufactured in China and Malaysia between January 2020 and February 2025.
So, what should you do if you own one of these scooters? First, stop using it immediately. Next, contact Segway to get a free maintenance kit. This kit comes with tools and instructions to check and tighten the locking mechanism. It's important to note that Segway advises regular checks and tightening of the folding mechanism, depending on how and where you ride. There will be no returns or replacements offered. This recall serves as a reminder that even popular products can have hidden dangers. It's crucial to stay informed and take action when issues arise. Regular maintenance and safety checks can prevent accidents and keep you safe while enjoying your scooter.
