Screen Time Talk: A Fresh Look for Parents and Kids

Illinois, Glenbard, USAMon Apr 27 2026
A new online event on May 5 will bring parents and teens together to chat about how screens affect young people. The program, called “The Amazing Generation: Breaking Up with Screens and Unlocking Kids’ Potential in a Tech‑Filled Environment, ” will run twice: first for adults at noon and then for students from 1 to 2 p. m. The sessions will be followed by evening repeats so families can watch together later in the day. The host is Catherine Price, a science writer who has co‑authored books that explore how technology changes the way we think and feel. She will talk with Aliza Pressman, who wrote about parenting principles, during the parent session. In the student portion, Price will speak directly to tweens and teens with a moderator named Sheryl Ziegler, who has written about the important years of growth.
The idea behind the event is not to ban phones or scare kids. Instead, it aims to help families feel more in control and connected while still using technology wisely. Participants will learn ways to focus attention, strengthen relationships, and find joy beyond the screen. Schools are encouraged to stream the student talk during school hours, while libraries can host community watch parties in the evening. The event is free and open to everyone; Zoom links can be found at GPSParentSeries. org.
