Semen Testing Made Simple: A New Tool for Farmers

Farmers now have a handy tool to check boar semen quality right on the spot. The iSperm system is a mobile-based setup that makes semen analysis quick and easy. It uses a special microfluidic chip, a tablet, and an optical module to measure sperm concentration, motility, and progressive motility in under a minute. The system is designed to be user-friendly, so even those without special training can use it. Tests showed that the results from iSperm matched well with traditional methods like CASA and the hemocytometer. This means farmers can trust the data they get from iSperm. The system was tested on 77 samples collected from farms. The results were analyzed using Passing-Bablok regression and Bland-Altman analysis, which confirmed that iSperm's measurements were accurate. Additionally, ROC curve analyses showed that the system's diagnostic accuracy was high, with AUC values over 0. 95 for all parameters. iSperm is a reliable and easy-to-use tool for on-site semen quality assessment. It helps farmers make better decisions about artificial insemination, improving the overall efficiency of their operations.
