Shark Encounter: A Tragic Morning at Crowdy Bay
AustraliaThu Nov 27 2025
In a shocking turn of events, a shark attack at Crowdy Bay National Park in Australia left one person dead and another seriously injured. This happened early in the morning while they were swimming. The beach, known for its camping, fishing, and hiking, is now closed. This is not the first time a shark attack has happened in this area.
The man who survived was quickly taken to the hospital. A bystander helped him by putting a makeshift tourniquet on his leg. This quick action might have saved his life. The woman, unfortunately, did not make it. The identities of the victims have not been released, but it is known that they were Swiss nationals.
Experts say that shark attacks on multiple people are rare. A large bull shark is believed to be responsible for this attack. Authorities have set up drumlines to try and catch the shark. This is not the first time drumlines have been used in the area to reduce shark numbers.
Shark attacks are not common, but when they happen, they can be devastating. In 2019, two British tourists were attacked by a single shark while snorkeling. One lost a foot, and the other suffered leg injuries. Since 1791, there have been over 1, 280 shark incidents in Australia, with more than 250 resulting in death.
Just last month, a shark fatally mauled a surfer off a Sydney beach. The man lost several limbs, and his surfboard was broken in two. Earlier this month, a windsurfer had a close call with a shark off the country's west coast. The shark knocked him off his board, but he survived.
