Shooting Spree Ends Near Willmar: Two Injured, One Killed

A series of shootings that began in Minneapolis ended near Willmar, leaving one man dead and another injured. The Kandiyohi County Sheriff's Office reported that the incident started around 1:00 p. m. on Tuesday when Minneapolis Police responded to an apartment complex on Lyndale Avenue South. A man was reportedly firing shots from the top floor of the building. The suspect, later identified as 25-year-old Ameer Matariyeh from Minneapolis, was seen traveling west through multiple counties. In Kandiyohi County, he allegedly shot and injured a 25-year-old man at a rural home. The victim, Peter Mayerchak, is now in stable condition. The chase continued to the Highway 71/23 bypass south of Willmar. There, the suspect attempted a carjacking and fatally shot the driver. The victim has been identified as 55-year-old Jerome Skluzacek from New London. Authorities successfully arrested Matariyeh without further casualties. No officers used deadly force during the arrest.
