SimpliSafe Changes Hands: New Leadership for a Growing Security Giant
USA, BostonFri Nov 14 2025
In a significant shift, SimpliSafe, a major player in the smart-home security market, has a new owner and a fresh leadership team. The Boston-based company is now under the wing of private equity firm GTCR, which recently completed its acquisition from Hellman & Friedman. This change brings in Hilary Schneider as the new CEO, replacing Christian Cerda, and Ty Shay as the president. Both Schneider and Shay have extensive experience in growing consumer brands, having previously worked together at LifeLock and Shutterfly.
SimpliSafe, which boasts around 1, 200 employees, including nearly 600 in Boston, is the third-largest residential security provider in the United States. Despite their California home bases, Schneider and Shay plan to be active in Boston and Richmond, Virginia, where SimpliSafe has offices. The company's founder and board chairman, Chad Laurans, praised Cerda's foundation and expressed enthusiasm for the new leadership's expertise.
The transition comes at a time when SimpliSafe is expanding its reach and services. The company's focus on innovation and customer satisfaction has driven its growth, and the new leadership aims to continue this trajectory. Schneider's LinkedIn post highlighted the company's clear purpose and the passion of its employees, setting the stage for an exciting future.
